Villages in the vicinity
n the vicinity of Lascaux there are some villages most certainly worthy of a visit.
To start of with our neighbouring village, Arnac-Pompadour, a small town known for harbouring the pedigree of all horses, pony's and donkeys in France. In Pompadour almost every week from May to October there are equestrian events of all types mostly held on the large all-year round race course opposite the magnificent chateau, which are inexpensive to attend. Almost as beautiful is the castle of Pompadour, inhabited in the 15th century by 'La Bellemarquise', Madame de Pompadour. She was King Louie XV's favourite who granted the village it's name. Although there is only two quarters left of the castle it is really worth taking a look.
From our site you can see two peaks, namely Ayen and Saint Robert. These are villages with a history dating back to medieval times. The architecture there still show the charm of that time.
What you should definitely visit is the beautiful Segur le Chateau. This town was built around an old castle. Therefore it is listed as one of the "Les Plus Beaux Villages De France", the most-beautiful villages in France. A visit to Segur le Chateau in the summer is easily combined with an evening market.
Ofcourse you should visit Objat, during your stay at La Maison des Pères, a cozy town with a partially covered market where, every Sunday morning, farmers from the area come to sell their products and goods.
Just over the border with the Dordogne, lies the beautiful Hautefort. This city owes its fame to the castle Hautefort with its beautiful gardens. Hautefort also has the Musée de la Medicine which is located in a former 17th century hospital.
This is just a small selection from all the villages worth visiting, we would like to inform you about other sites during your visit.
